It’s one of Escola Azul’s big news for the 2024/25 school year! We are giving 120 teachers from the network the opportunity to participate in the “Guardians of the Ocean” Teacher Training, with oceanographer Caroline Schio from the Programa Monitoramento Mirim Costeiro.
This coastal monitoring program for the school community has been carried out over the last few years in Portugal, with great participation and excellent feedback from teachers from the Escola Azul network. Therefore, for this school year, the Escola Azul Coordination gives this opportunity to 120 educators and school teachers.
The training consists of accredited sessions, under the b-learning regime, with a workload of 50 hours: 25 hours face-to-face and synchronous + 25 hours of independent work. There are 8 classes distributed geographically as follows: North (2 classes); Center and West; Lisbon (2 classes); Setúbal; Alentejo; Algarve. In the image below you can see the sessions' schedule (in PT).
Goals
• Train teachers to use new pedagogical tools that promote Ocean Literacy in a practical and transdisciplinary way in the school program.
• Involve the school community in the major issues that impact the Ocean, motivating them to become agents of change in their communities.
• Promote the exchange of data, ideas, projects and practical actions that contribute to preserve the Ocean.
