“The Ocean Is Everyone’s Right” Competition aims to explore, through art, the connection between the Ocean and Human Rights, promoting an understanding of the Ocean as a common heritage and encouraging children and young people to reflect on the right to a healthy Ocean and on individual and collective responsibility for its protection.

The Competition is open to students from pre-school to secondary education, through their respective schools, teachers and educational communities.
- National dimension: all Portuguese schools are eligible to participate, regardless of whether they are part of the Escola Azul Programme.
- International dimension: the Competition aims to involve schools from the Member States of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).
Entries may be submitted in three categories:

“The Sea Belongs to Everyone!” - 3 to 10 years old
Exploring the sea as a source of food, a space for life, leisure and protection. A sensitive and creative approach to the role of the Ocean in our everyday lives.

“Human Rights on Land and at Sea” - 11 to 15 years old
Reflection on how the Ocean contributes to ensuring fundamental rights such as access to food, decent work, access to water and environmental protection.

“Ocean, Justice and Freedom” - 15 to 18 years old
A critical and informed perspective on current issues such as migration, climate justice, the sustainable use of marine resources and the rights of coastal communities.
