Escola Azul is collaborating with the European research project LandSeaLot, supporting the integration of Blue Schools in citizen science actions linked to the project.

LandSeaLot studies the land-sea interface area, where terrestrial and marine habitats meet. It is developed by a consortium of 20 European entities, including the Escola Azul partner CoLab +Atlantic.

In Portugal, the area of study includes the Tagus and Sado rivers, where temperature sensors will be placed in the surrounding areas.

Escola Azul organized a meeting between teachers from these regions' Blue Schools and researcher Francisco Campuzano, from CoLab +Atlantic, who presented the project and challenged the schools to sponsor these sensors, with the students themselves reading and transmitting the observations.

At least two Blue Schools have accepted the challenge and taken the first steps in this initiative.

At the Escola Básica e Secundária Dom Martinho Vaz de Castelo Branco (Vila Franca de Xira), there was an introductory presentation of the project to the students, who will now figure out where to place the sensor autonomously.

At the Escola Básica e Secundária Anselmo de Andrade (Almada), in addition to the theoretical session in the classroom to present the project and the activity, the students have already proceeded to placing the sensor, after having counted on the collaboration of the Almada Nautical Club..

With the sensors installed, students will now collect data every three months and send it to the project team.
