Escola Azul once again supports Plogging Challenge Portugal, an initiative that is now on its 5th edition and is organized by Plogging de Santa Maria da Feira.
The 5th edition of Plogging Challenge Portugal takes place between March 30th and April 30th, 2025.
Between these dates, Blue Schools may be able to take on the role of local organizer by promoting their own plogging action. To register their action in the context of Plogging Challenge Portugal, they must fill out the following form by March 15th: https://forms.gle/qHtw7uSYmPwRsvEr8.
After carrying out the plogging action, each local organizer must then record their results on a specific form to be made available later: number of kilometers covered, number of participants, number of bags with recyclable waste, etc.
Plogging is an outdoor sporting activity (usually jogging or walking) that includes waste collection and recycling. Plogging Challenge Portugal seeks to aggregate plogging actions carried out across Portugal into a nationwide initiative.
The challenge aims to:
1) Raise awareness about the importance of walking outdoors and physical exercise in general as health promoters;
2) Value recycling as a way of giving new life to the majority of waste: recyclable waste is a resource and should not be seen as trash;
3) Promote interaction between participants and community members;
4) Give renewed attention to local architectural heritage;
5) Raise awareness about the value of Environmental Volunteering.
