Escola Azul is once again challenging our Pre-School young artists.
In 2025/26, we're joining our partners Mar de Experiências and Mútua dos Pescadores in launching the "Little Artists and the Professions of the Sea" challenge.
Based on the book "Profissões do Mar" (Professions of the Sea) by Mar de Experiências, we challenge Pre-School classrooms at Blue Schools to create artwork that reflects on what they've learned.
Schools have already applied to participate (the deadline was October 31st).They will now receive copies of the book "Profissões do Mar". After reading and interpreting it together, each classroom will be asked to create a model or artwork alluding to the book and the professions of the sea.

On January 7, 2026, the schools enrolled in the Challenge participated in an online Story Time, where they watched a video of the book "Profissões do Mar" (watch below) and also heard a fantastic song about the book. All of this was created by our partners at Mar de Experiências. This session also included the participation of the president of the Mútua dos Pescadores, João Delgado, who, being a fisherman himself, answered several questions from the boys and girls who attended the session.
Our partners at Mar de Experiências and Mútua dos Pescadores also conducted a total of six activities related to the book in six registered schools (in the municipalities of Vila do Conde, Peniche, Lisbon, Sesimbra, Sines, and Olhão). These activities took place between December 2025 and January 2026. Marine biologists, divers, sailors, ship captains, fishermen, shipbuilders, lighthouse keepers, athletes, and maritime police officers spoke about their professions and answered the questions of these attentive children.
The "Little Artists and the Professions of the Sea" competition will recognize one winning entry and two honorable mentions. The winning school will receive an art installation from Mar de Experiências and gift bags from Escola Azul and Mútua dos Pescadores. Schools awarded with honorable mentions will receive a trophy from Mar de Experiências and gift bags from Escola Azul and Mútua dos Pescadores.
