This Short Training Course is the result of a partnership between SPEA, NUCLIO and Escola Azul.
It is open to teachers from all subject areas and educational levels.
The course focuses on the conservation work being carried out on barrier islands. These islands play a vital role as refuges for several seabird species, while also providing important nesting and feeding grounds for other birds, as well as fish and crustaceans.
The following topics will be addressed:
- the biodiversity of barrier islands and their ecological importance;
- dune systems and their main threats;
- the impact of human activities and ways to mitigate them.
To support the independent exploration of these themes, participants will be introduced to an educational handbook developed as part of a conservation project co-funded by the European Union's LIFE Programme. This resource includes a range of practical activities that teachers can easily use both inside and outside the classroom.
It's already 30 October!
