Escola Azul joins Hidroval and the Pavilhão da Água in launching a new edition of the “Only One Water" Illustration Contest. The theme for 2025/26 is “Water and Climate” and we invited students from the Blue School PT network (from all levels of education) to create illustrations that reflect on this theme.
This challenge aims to encourage a change in habits within our communities in the face of current climate change. The relationship between water and climate is essential to understanding natural cycles, extreme weather events, and the impacts of climate change on the present and future of our planet. The 4th edition of the “Only One Water” contest invited students to explore how water and climate influence each other, and how we can protect both.
Both hand-drawn and digital illustrations are accepted in the contest (maximum of three per school), as long as they address the contest’s theme and fall within one of the following categories:
• Extreme Events and Their Impact on Local Communities
• Water Changes the Climate
• Climate Solutions and Hope
48 Blue Schools participated in the 2025/26 edition of the "Only One Water" Illustration Contest, submitting a total of 125 illustrations. Blue Schools from mainland Portugal, Madeira, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste competed. Here are the winners:

The top 25 illustrations will feature in Hidroval’s 2026 corporate calendar. All submitted illustrations will be displayed in an exhibition at the Pavilhão da Água (Porto), with free entry for all participating students and teachers.

The “Only One Water” contest was born from the passion and boundless energy of Sofia Domingues, whom we were fortunate to meet in 2022. For three years, Sofia breathed life into this contest, inspiring all of us with her contagious enthusiasm and unwavering sense of mission. For Escola Azul, the 4th edition of this contest is more than just a continuation: it is a heartfelt tribute to the incredible legacy of a person who deeply touched our hearts and lives.
